Michal Alon

Michal Alon, a clay artist who lives and works in Hadar-A'm, a village in Israel, among citrus orchards near the Mediterranean.
Graduated the Industrial and Environmental Design department at “Bezalel” Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem in 1975. Started to work in clay in 1976, under the guidance of her teacher and mentor ever since then, her mother, Hanna Charag-Zuntz.
Archeological influences combined with traditional shapes and forms are incorporated into functional and non-functional body of her work, which is mainly wheel thrown.
Her surroundings inspire her work. Local landscape and rugged rock formations, marked by rain, sun and wind become images and designs for pots and surfaces.
Surface treatment is dictated by the shape and character of the piece. She is in constant search of new glazes, since glaze is not a mere decoration, but an integral part of the overall design.
